Tim, Boof and the boys decide they are going to get their own muddies ready for the pot. Listen to them carry on, it’s hilarious.

Once they finally get them in the pot a really good receipe for chilli mudcrabs we like to use is:

all in the pot, Onion, Chilli, Garlic, Ginger til soft

add broken up crabs

add fish sauce (little), sweet chilli sauce (more) soy sauce (little) to taste

Cook in pot till crabs ready to eat (turns orange is you best hint!)

Then enjoy, mudcrabs are delicious any way you cook em and always
Click here to view the embedded video.
entertaining to catch!!

Shady Camp in the Northern Territory is renowned for it’s crocodile numbers as well as it’s awesome big barra. This video is a slight taste of some of the action you might see whilst trawling for your big barra, as you can see it gets the boys screaming and running away. They don’t actually jump in the boat but I reckon the nervous camerman was thinking otherwise.

Shady Camp is part of the Mary River system, it provides boat access to the mangrove-lined section of Sampan Creek and Tommycut Creek, (where we anchor our mothership) for the barramundi runoff season, from Feb-May every year. Very large barra are caught trawling the mouths of both creeks and a few of the other smaller creeks. It’s a great place to be for the runoff, plenty of action on the water and sheer remoteness of the area gives you the feeling of really being away from it all.

One of the most relaxing ways to collect your live bait, strolling along the waters edge throwing in your cast net. It can be quite frustrating at first learning the trick to a successful throw, but once accomplished, the excitement mainly from the kids to collect the little fish, is quite satisfying. Our kids love it and it is usually a team effort on their behalf with all 3 joining in on the throw all holding a part each and yelling 1, 2, 3 go. I am sure this is not the professional approach the clients enjoy from Scott but it is a real laugh for us, and to our amazement, successfull. Just watch out towards the wet season you don’t accidentally pick up a box jelly fish and throw that on your back OUCH!

North of Darwin late this dry season, traveling along the edge of a reef, this goldie smashed onto the lure. We thought it was a pelagic at first, because it was going off like a GT. Then he dragged up a beautiful Goldie on a barra classic. Generally Golden Snappers are caught through bottom bouncing, so this was a nice surprise. We trawled back over the mark but there were no more to be had. We did catch a fair few smaller goldies on other marks near by, but this ones was a beauty.

March Creek at Shady Camp in the Northern Territory has always been a great favorite for Barra fisherman, Now even ever popular during the RunOff season (Feb to May), it pays to get your boat there early to get close to the mouth and flick for barra. Always a place to find the large barra, plenty of action either side of the mouth. In this video Scott managed to get right in the mouth and the result was a huge 108cm barra. Humbug Fishing has overnight accommodation or guided fishing with accommodation available at Shady Camp during the early part of the RunOff. The Motherboat Yarramundi is anchored in Tommycut Creek, enable early morning access without all the worry or time wasting of putting you boat in at the Barrage..
