The Tiwi Islands (known as Ratuati Irara in Tiwi language), located approximately 80 kilometers north of Darwin, consist of Melville Island, Bathurst Island, and smaller uninhabited islands.
Separating these main islands is the Apsley Strait, stretching about 62 kilometers long. This narrow waterway connects Saint Asaph Bay in the north to Shoal Bay in the south.
