The Moyle and Little Moyle Rivers sit roughly 200 kilometres southwest of Darwin. Humbug Fishing runs liveaboard barramundi charters here throughout the year, fishing the deeper river channels on neap tides outside the March to May runoff season.
What makes the Moyle Rivers different from Daly River?
Daly River is built around the big tides of the barra runoff, March to May. The Moyle and Little Moyle Rivers work differently. Barramundi sit in the deeper channels of both rivers year-round, and Humbug Fishing fishes them on neap tides, the smaller, gentler tides that fall between the big spring tides.
This gives you a barra option outside the three-month runoff window. If your dates do not line up with the Daly River season, the Moyle system is where our team will often point you instead.
What is the fishing like on the Moyle system?
Barramundi is the main target, and the deeper channels of both rivers hold consistent numbers of fish across a session. On a strong day, anglers have landed upwards of 100 barramundi in a single session. Beyond the barra, the floodplain at the mouth of the Moyle and Little Moyle carries heavy birdlife and wildlife, visible from the water when the floodplain is accessible.
Where do the charters go from here?
Humbug Fishing runs mixed bag fishing, barra, reef, and pelagics, depending on the tide. The Moyle system anchors the barra side of a charter, with reef and pelagic species fished on the off tide. Charters here run aboard Starfire, with two fishing tenders, both in survey, launched directly from the mothership.

- We sort everything. Once your booking is confirmed, we handle the provisions, gear, logistics, and hotel transfers from Darwin.
- Fish the tides that matter. Neap tides for barra on the Moyle system, big tides for barra during the Daly River runoff, for five to seven days aboard Starfire.
