Cobourg Peninsula sits in Arnhem Land, and Humbug Fishing runs charters here from October to November, when weather and tides line up. The New Year Island Group, anchored at the southern end of Oxley, McCluer, and Grant Islands, is a key destination within the region, fished either guided or tag-along.
When can you fish Cobourg Peninsula?
October and November are Humbug Fishing’s window for Cobourg Peninsula, when weather and tide conditions are at their best. The New Year Island Group is fished during the same window, weather permitting.
Guided or tag-along, which is right for you?
Cobourg Peninsula is fished two ways. On a guided charter, our crew takes you fishing directly, the same way as on the liveaboard charters elsewhere in the Top End. On a tag-along charter, you bring your own tenders, fish your own plan during the day, and use the mothership for accommodation and facilities each night.
What does a tag-along charter to the New Year Island Group include?
Tag-along charters to the New Year Island Group run a minimum of 6.5 days, including a half-day mobilisation day to load stores and equipment while the crew fuels and prepares the tenders. Bookings are for the whole boat, up to 12 passengers.
The package includes comfortable accommodation, linen, and use of the mothership’s facilities, fridges, freezers, and cooking equipment, along with toilet and shower. You supply your own tender, towed behind the mothership during the journey to the islands, along with your fishing gear, all food and drinking water, bait, ice, and personal items including a towel.
Each day is planned around what you want to fish and where you want to go. You liaise directly with the crew, moving between your own tender and the mothership when and where it is safe to do so. There is an option to fish along the way to the islands, or on the return trip. Charters depart from Fishermans Wharf, Darwin, at approximately 1pm.
How does booking work?
- Get in touch and lock in your dates. Call or email with your preferred October or November dates, group size, and whether you want a guided or tag-along charter.
- We sort everything. Once your booking is confirmed, our team fuels and prepares the tenders, and organises the logistics for your trip.
- Fish Cobourg Peninsula and the New Year Island Group. A minimum of 6.5 days on the water, based aboard the mothership.
